Syrian photojournalist details rebellion against regime, father

Loubna Mrie writes in her memoir “Defiance” that she grew up in Syria where her father was allegedly an assassin for the regime, and that she later rebelled against both, according to the book.

Mrie says she joined the Syrian uprising first as a protester and then as a photojournalist, documenting the conflict and the streets where protests took place, the memoir states.

“Defiance” chronicles her shift from demonstrator to documentarian and describes how those roles affected her life and views, Mrie writes in the book.

The memoir offers a personal account of the uprising and of family ties strained by politics and violence, Mrie says in “Defiance.”
