Trump administration defends easing oil sanctions on Russia, Iran

President Donald Trump’s administration said it has lifted restrictions on oil from Russia and Iran to prevent further spikes in energy prices, a move the administration said was aimed at shielding the global economy and American consumers.

The administration defended the decision as necessary to avoid disruptions that could ripple through markets and raise costs for U.S. households, the White House said.

Officials said the measure was taken in light of global energy dynamics and the potential for price shocks to slow economic activity internationally and domestically, according to the administration.
