Vietnam War veterans sue to block Trump administration’s proposed arch in D.C.

Three Vietnam War veterans on Thursday filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration seeking to block construction of a proposed triumphal arch at Washington’s Memorial Circle, saying the project lacks congressional approval, the plaintiffs said.

The veterans, joined by an architectural historian, argue the administration does not have authority to proceed without Congress’ authorization, according to the filing.

The structure has been dubbed “Independence Arch” by the White House, the plaintiffs said.

The lawsuit asks the court to bar the administration from constructing the arch, the veterans and the historian said.
