Breaking: off duty officer shot and killed in Tippah county

An off duty Tippah county police officer was shot and killed in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 30th. The Tippah county resident was killed in the northern part of the county. A second person, identified as Ricky Vick, was also shot and transported to a local hospital.

Various law enforcement officials have named the person killed as Mississippi highway patrolman Josh Smith of Walnut. The shooter, identified as Troy Anthony Eaton, is in custody.
