Multiple Explosions Reported Near New Albany
Officials from Union County E911 were dispatched to the Center area of Union County on Highway 348 on Tuesday afternoon after a call came in regarding multiple explosions occuring.
According to sources on the scene, a vehicle tire blew and subsequently left the road and caught on fire, causing something in the area to explode multiple times.
It is unclear whether it was the car itself that exploded or something else located there. Nearby residents say that there were several explosions right after the car left the road.
The accident occured in a dangerous area near a concrete box culvert where it is not uncommon for serious accidents to occur, prompting some residents to question why a guard railing is not in place in this particular spot.
Update: Per a family member the brakes on the truck stuck causing the tire to blow out , then the truck caught fire. The explosion was due to gun shells located inside the truck that got hot & popped, along with all the tires & the gas tank. The driver is reported to be banged up but is expected to make a full recovery.
