Tippah County school events, church services and sports cancelled due to Coronavirus

Multiple events, including school function, sporting events and church services have been cancelled this week due to the threat of Coronavirus.

School functions including assemblies and field trips at South Tippah School district have been cancelled.

The Tippah County Archery tournament, set for Saturday, has been cancelled.

From Walnut Archery:

Attention all archers & family of archers in Tippah County. The Tippah County Archery Tournament will not be held this Saturday. I have been told to cancel this match until further notice by AIMS, which is run by the Department of Wildlife. Please pass the word.

Church services at FBC of Ripley have been cancelled:

After much prayer, deliberation, and discussion, we have decided to cancel all Sunday services this week, March 15, 2020. The staff and deacons weighed serious recommendations from healthcare professionals and suggestions from state authorities, especially as it relates to the care and concern for those most susceptible to this virus: our Senior Adults and many folks who have low immunity. The recommendation is for gatherings of 250 people or more, which identifies us as a church specifically. Containment and slowing the potential spread of this virus is the main concern for us all, not caving to media hype, government pressure, or fear.

We will update this as more local events are cancelled.
