Jeff Spence is on trial for the 2022 murder of Mississippi businessman Kirby Carpenter, who was found shot to death outside his Booneville-area home. Spence’s wife, Karen, and daughter, Caitlin, are also charged in the case.

Carpenter, a successful precious metals dealer, was discovered dead behind his garage on December 2, 2022. Investigators believe he was killed two days earlier, shortly after returning from grocery shopping.

Caitlin, Carpenter’s partner and the mother of his infant child, initially claimed her parents had left for Virginia before the murder, but they soon reappeared at the crime scene, raising suspicion.

In court developments, Caitlin and Karen have accepted a plea deal, admitting guilt to Accessory to Murder After the Fact. In exchange for a reduced sentence, she is believed to be required to testify against her father, who face capital murder charges.
