South Tippah Schools receiving grant to place officers at schools

South Tippah School district, which includes Blue Mountain, Pine Grove and Ripley schools, will receive grants from the Mississippi Department of Education
Mississippi Community Oriented Policing Services in Schools grant program.

The grant program, which is providing South Tippah Schools $50,000 for 5 officers, provides money for South Tippah to expand their existing School Resource Officer program.

The $10,000 per officer grant must be matched by the school district with funds for safety equipment for the school to which the officer is assigned.

Currently, South Tippah has one SRO at each of the five schools, although only one is certified, Tim Windham at Ripley. The other officers will be going to become certified in February. These funds will be used to help provide funds for an SRO at all of the schools in the district.
