Over 2000 students in Mississippi are currently under quarantine

Over 400 students, teachers and staffmembers of Mississippi’s schools have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Monday.

According to Mississippi State Health Officer, Dr. Thomas Dobbs, 71 of Mississippi’s 82 counties have confirmed cases in students, teachers, and staff members.

Some schools have not started back yet and some are doing virtual only, Dobbs stated.

“That doesn’t mean they caught it there,” he stated. In most cases, people came to school already infected and were not aware yet. Dobbs said that the state has identified 245 teachers and 199 students who have tested positive.

Exposure has forced 589 teachers/staff into quarantine as well as 2,035 students statewide.
