Campus assesses damage and safety after winter storm

Campus officials announced updates Thursday on ongoing recovery efforts after a winter storm affected the campus. The priority remains safety and damage assessment, as water service has yet to be restored.

While utilities have been partially reconnected, staff are now identifying and evaluating damage to structures and facilities. Once water returns, crews will focus on repairing damaged water lines. Tree limbs and debris continue to pose safety hazards, with some branches still at risk of falling.

Significant progress was made yesterday in clearing ice from campus roadways. However, overnight freezes have kept conditions hazardous, requiring ongoing caution. Crews are expected to arrive as early as Friday to assist with debris removal from damaged trees.

University President Barbara C. McMillin expressed hope that recent efforts will clarify the timeline for a potential campus return. She also thanked the community for prayers and support, encouraging members to keep those affected by the storm in their thoughts.
