The northbound lanes of Interstate 55 remain closed, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Crews are working to clear the right lane, which has been blocked by black ice accumulation.
Overnight conditions led to additional buildup of ice on the interstate, prompting the closure for safety reasons. Officials expect the lane to be cleared later this morning.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on traffic conditions as work continues to improve road safety on the highway.
