Mississippi auditor says state has second-highest car tag fees, cites $400 million in waste

State Auditor Shad White said an analysis his office began in January found Mississippi has the second-highest car tag fees in the nation, with costs often approaching or exceeding $1,000, his office said.

Analysts working for White’s office determined the ranking, the statement said.

White’s office also said it has uncovered more than $400 million in waste within state government.

White urged state officials to cut waste so taxpayers benefit, including by reducing car tag fees, his office said.
