Mississippi Continues Aid Efforts Amid Winter Storm Damage
Mississippi counties impacted by winter weather continue to request emergency supplies, including meals, water, cots, blankets, and generators. As of 8 a.m. Sunday, 41 counties had submitted 662 requests, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
MEMA, with assistance from the National Guard, has distributed more than 275,000 bottles of water, nearly 94,000 meals, nearly 4,800 blankets, nearly 2,000 cots, and over 4,300 tarps to areas in need, the agency said.
Power restoration efforts are ongoing, with thousands of linemen working around the clock. As of 10:30 a.m. Sunday, about 57,600 power outages remained. The number fluctuates as power is gradually restored and more lines come online.
Additionally, 53 generators are installed at critical infrastructure sites. Some generators are being relocated as power is restored and needs change, MEMA said.
