The Mississippi Forestry Commission said Tuesday that 13 counties are under burn bans as dry conditions and the onset of peak wildfire season increase wildfire risk.
The commission listed the affected counties as Lee, Tate, Benton, Sunflower, Marshall, Lafayette, Copiah, Rankin, Jefferson, Covington, Grenada, Franklin and Jefferson Davis.
The commission said a burn ban means no outdoor burning of any kind is allowed, including campfires, debris burning or open flames.
The agency said the list is being updated as conditions change and urged residents to check mfc.ms.gov/burn-bans for the latest information before considering any fire.
