Mississippi Offers SNAP Replacement Benefits After Winter Storm Fern

The Mississippi Department of Human Services announced that the USDA Food and Nutrition Service has approved mass replacement benefits for eligible households in 15 of the hardest-hit counties following Winter Storm Fern. The approval allows affected SNAP clients to replace lost food items.

A separate waiver extends the 10-day application window for replacement benefits in the remaining 28 counties impacted by the storm. Clients in these counties now have until February 23, 2026, to submit their 508 Forms to request assistance, according to the department.

For more information and a full list of affected counties, residents are encouraged to visit the department’s website at mdhs.ms.gov. The department advises clients to stay updated on further announcements regarding assistance programs related to the storm.
