Mississippi Roads Turn Icy Amid Winter Storm, Authorities Urge Stay at Home

Winter weather has swept through Mississippi, making roads hazardous across much of the state. As of 11:45 a.m. Monday, 37 counties reported ice on roads and bridges, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Counties affected include Adams, Alcorn, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Claiborne, Coahoma, Copiah, DeSoto, Grenada, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Itawamba, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Leflore, Marshall, Monroe, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Warren, Washington, Yalobusha and Yazoo, MDOT said.

Officials strongly advise residents to stay home and avoid travel unless there is an emergency. First responders are working tirelessly to manage dangerous conditions, and officials ask the public to support their efforts by refraining from unnecessary trips.

The agency emphasized the importance of winter safety and urged everyone to exercise caution if travel is unavoidable.
