Mississippi woman sentenced to 30 years for attempted murder
Gillespie pleaded guilty to attempted murder stemming from an incident on Aug. 26, 2023, in Prentiss County, Mississippi, according to a news release from the District Attorney’s Office.
She also pleaded guilty to a count of aggravated assault related to an incident on Nov. 8, 2022, in the same county. Circuit Court Judge Kelly Mims sentenced Gillespie on April 8, 2026.
Gillespie received a 40-year sentence for attempted murder, with 10 years suspended. The remaining 30 years are to be served in the Mississippi Department of Corrections. For the aggravated assault charge, she was sentenced to 20 years, with 20 years suspended, to run consecutive to the attempted murder sentence.
The District Attorney’s Office credited Detective Karl Courtney of the Booneville Police Department for his investigative work. The cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Joel Baldwin and Reagan Wise.
Jason D. Herring is the district attorney for the First Circuit Court District, officials said.
