National Weather Service in Memphis warns lightning can be deadly, urges shelter and radios
The U.S. National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee warned that lightning can result in death or serious injury and urged people to seek immediate shelter if they hear thunder or see lightning.
The agency advised taking shelter in an enclosed building or a hard-topped vehicle with the windows up, according to a post from the office.
For those outdoors or on the water, the office recommended carrying a portable weather radio or an AM/FM radio in the boat so people can receive timely warnings and updates, the post said.
The post included hashtags referencing Tennessee weather and Severe Weather Awareness Week, including #TNwx and #TNSevereWeatherAwarenessWeek, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.
