NWS Memphis urges people to post shelter locations for Safe Place Selfie Day
The National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee urged followers and partner organizations to mark Safe Place Selfie Day by sharing where they take shelter, the agency said in a social media post.
The post encouraged people to share photos of their safe locations so others can see where to go when high-impact weather threatens, the agency said.
The agency listed examples of safe places, saying locations range from tornado shelters to flood-safe zones and that every location counts, the post said.
The National Weather Service said the campaign is meant to help people identify safe places ahead of severe weather and to raise awareness of shelter options, the post said.
