Tupelo issues winter weather safety advisory amid dangerous road conditions

The Tupelo Police Department has issued a public safety notice as extreme winter weather is expected to create hazardous and potentially impassable road conditions. Authorities urge residents to stay home and avoid travel unless it is an emergency.

Police will respond only to emergency calls during this period. Officers will not respond to non-emergency incidents or minor traffic crashes involving no injuries and minor damage when vehicles are drivable. Residents are advised to report non-emergency issues once conditions improve.

Officials also remind the public not to call 911 or the police department to inquire about road conditions, as emergency resources need to remain available for life-threatening situations. The department emphasizes the importance of planning ahead, checking on vulnerable neighbors, and staying safe during the storm.
