Arrest Made in Shooting Incident on Highway 6 in Tupelo

TUPELO – Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting incident on Highway 6 that occurred on June 25, 2024. Tupelo Police responded to reports of gunfire directed at a motor vehicle near the South Thomas Street exit. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle with damage to its front driver’s side tire.
According to the victim, who was traveling westbound on Highway 6, a white Dodge Challenger attempted to pass him in the left lane. During the passing maneuver, a passenger in the Dodge Challenger leaned out of the window and fired two shots at the victim’s vehicle, striking the tire.
Following a thorough investigation, Zarrat T. Sims, aged 31 and a resident of Tupelo, was arrested on July 1, 2024. He has been charged with one count of Shooting into a Motor Vehicle. This arrest marks the second in connection with the incident.
Tupelo Municipal Court Judge Pinkard set Sims’ bond at $50,000 during a hearing on July 1, 2024. The charges against Sims will be presented to the Lee County Grand Jury for further proceedings.
