Baptist Memorial to acquire Merit Health Rankin in $70 million deal
Baptist Memorial Health Care has received approval to acquire Merit Health Rankin in Brandon, Mississippi, as part of a $70 million investment to enhance hospital services. The transfer is expected to occur in the second half of this year, according to Rankin County supervisors.
Merit Health Rankin is a 134-bed community hospital operated by Brandon HMA, LLC, an affiliate of Community Health Systems. The hospital offers a range of services, including emergency care, diagnostics, inpatient treatment, and a senior care program with 18 beds. Baptist Memorial has pledged to retain more than 175 employees in good standing following the transition.
“Our team at Baptist Memorial Health Care couldn’t be happier to have the trust and support of the Rankin County Board of Supervisors to care for the health of this community,” said Jason Little, president and CEO of Baptist Memorial. “It is a responsibility we take very seriously, and it is why we are very thoughtful about entering new communities as health care partners.”
Baptist Memorial, based in Memphis, is Mississippi’s largest health care network, with 14 hospitals across the state. Since 2016, the system has added nine hospitals through mergers, acquisitions, or organic growth, including the recent takeover of Oktibbeha County Regional Hospital in Starkville and Anderson Regional Health System in Meridian.
