Former Guntown Alderman, Ex-Public Works Operator Arrested for Alleged Embezzlement

JACKSON, Miss. — Former Guntown Alderman William Daniel Davis and his cousin, former Public Works Operator Robert Lee Davis, were arrested Tuesday for alleged fraud or embezzlement in public office, State Auditor Shad White announced.

Between October and November 2024, the pair allegedly conspired to defraud the City of Guntown by billing the city for the installation of a residential sewage line at a private residence belonging to Daniel Davis — costing taxpayers $9,950, according to the Auditor’s office.

“Our team at the State Auditor’s office has zero tolerance for those who think it is acceptable to steal taxpayer dollars,” White said. “We will continue to do everything in our power to find individuals who think they can get away with taking money from the taxpayers of Mississippi.”

William Daniel Davis and Robert Lee Davis each face up to 10 years in prison and $5,000 in fines if convicted. All persons arrested by the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Suspected fraud can be reported to the Auditor’s office at any time at www.osa.ms.gov or by calling 1-800-321-1275 during normal business hours.
