Marshand Crisler, the former interim sheriff of Hinds County, is out of federal prison and under house arrest, the U.S. Bureau of Prisons confirmed Tuesday. Crisler was transferred to community confinement on Aug. 3 and will serve the remainder of his sentence at home, according to prison records.
Crisler was convicted in November 2024 of soliciting and accepting $9,500 in bribes from Tonarri Moore, a convicted felon who was acting as an FBI informant, federal officials said. He was sentenced to two and a half years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $15,000 fine.
The former Jackson City Council member served as interim sheriff for part of 2021. He was convicted after a three-day trial in Jackson. Prosecutors said Crisler solicited bribes and engaged in misconduct, including revealing investigation details to Moore, relocating Moore’s cousin within the county jail, giving Moore a sheriff’s office job, and allowing Moore to possess a firearm despite his felony status.
The Bureau of Prisons’ website on Tuesday listed Crisler’s projected release date as Dec. 9, 2026. His wife, Eva Howard Crisler, posted on Facebook celebrating his release, saying, “You are finally home where you belong. I thank God for bringing you safely home, and I am grateful for the opportunity to begin this new chapter together.”
