Georgia received the most votes to win the Southeastern Conference championship, according to media attending the league’s annual media days in Tampa. The Bulldogs garnered 88 of 164 votes to reach the SEC title game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta this December, the media said.
Texas was the second choice, with 57 votes, while Mississippi received six. Other schools that received votes included Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, and Kentucky. Since 1992, only 10 times has the media’s preseason pick gone on to win the SEC title game, according to league records.
The media also selected preseason All-SEC teams. Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss was named first-team quarterback, narrowly edging Texas’ Arch Manning. The first-team offense included players from multiple schools, with Georgia’s Trevor Goosby and Jordan Seaton among the offensive linemen. On defense, Texas’ Colin Simmons and LSU’s Whit Weeks led the first-team selections.
The All-SEC teams feature a mix of players from across the conference, highlighting preseason expectations for the upcoming season. The full list of predicted standings and all-conference selections was published by Magnolia Tribune.
