Cassandra Wilson, a Grammy-winning jazz singer, songwriter, and producer from Jackson, Mississippi, has died at age 70. Her longtime manager, Robert Torre, confirmed that she passed peacefully at home surrounded by family, friends, and her team, and requested privacy for her loved ones during this time.
Wilson, born Cassandra Fowlkes, grew up in Jackson and graduated from Murrah High School. She was known for blending jazz with influences from country, folk, blues, and pop. Her unique style earned her international acclaim and numerous awards, including Grammys for her albums “New Moon Daughter” and “Loverly.”
