Mississippi State Auditor Shad White will increase his political activity after returning from an overseas deployment, his campaign said Tuesday. White is a captain in the Mississippi National Guard and is currently deployed in the Middle East, his team said.
White’s campaign said he plans to help Republican congressional candidates in the November midterm elections to try to keep the GOP in the majority in both chambers. The campaign also said White intends to support President Donald Trump’s efforts related to the elections.
“Auditor White is deployed overseas in the Middle East with the National Guard right now during this conflict with Iran. When he returns from his deployment, his focus will be on helping President Trump keep Republican control of Congress so he can continue delivering wins for the American people,” said Clinton Soffer, general consultant for White’s campaign. “Auditor White will have plenty to say about the Governor’s race after the midterms,” he added.
The campaign statement came hours after Attorney General Lynn Fitch announced her 2027 bid for governor. Fitch and White have feuded over the investigation into what White has described as the state’s largest welfare scandal, and the two have publicly clashed over who has authority to litigate related cases.
White sued former NFL quarterback Brett Favre in 2024 over alleged misspending tied to the scandal. Fitch challenged White’s authority to bring the suit, and the Mississippi Supreme Court sided with the attorney general in June. White has said he is weighing a run for governor, while other Republicans already in the field include Fitch, Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson and former House Speaker Philip Gunn, his campaign noted.
