Mississippi State guard Josh Hubbard named preseason first-team All-SEC

Mississippi State guard Josh Hubbard was named a preseason first-team All-SEC selection by the league’s media, SuperTalk Mississippi reported Oct. 12, 2026.

SuperTalk Mississippi reported Hubbard averaged 22.1 points, 3.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds last season. The outlet said he was State’s first player to amass at least 700 points and 100 assists in 2025-26 and enters 2026-27 with 1,947 career points — No. 4 on the Bulldogs’ all-time list, No. 4 among SEC players after their junior season and No. 34 overall in SEC history.

The report said Hubbard has knocked down 311 career three-pointers, a Mississippi State program mark that is tied for No. 9 on the SEC’s all-time list. SuperTalk Mississippi noted Hubbard joins Canton native Quinndary Weatherspoon as the only Mississippi State players to collect three preseason All-SEC selections during their careers, and that Hubbard and Erick Dampier are the only Bulldogs to be named to an All-SEC team in their freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.

SuperTalk Mississippi reported the Bulldogs were picked to finish No. 15 in the 16-team conference. The outlet said in-state rival Ole Miss was picked to finish No. 13. Mississippi State finished the 2025-26 season 13-19 overall and 5-13 in SEC play; Ole Miss finished 15-20 overall and 4-14 in conference play but made a deep run in the conference tournament, SuperTalk Mississippi reported.

SuperTalk Mississippi listed Mississippi State’s upcoming schedule as beginning the regular season at home vs. Tennessee Tech on Nov. 2, 2026, with exhibition games against NC State on Oct. 18, 2026, and Memphis on Oct. 23, 2026. The outlet said Ole Miss opens the regular season at home vs. Alcorn State on Nov. 2, 2026, with exhibitions vs. Alabama on Oct. 15, 2026, and Andy Kennedy’s UAB team on Oct. 27, 2026.
