No. 19 Texas defeated No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27 in Austin, denying a late Rebel comeback and handing Ole Miss a road loss that the source described as leaving the team with no margin for error in the playoff chase.

SuperTalk Mississippi reported the game in Austin and said Texas rallied from a 24-3 halftime deficit to hold off the Rebels. The report noted Texas quarterback Arch Manning finished 18-of-30 for 212 yards, one passing touchdown and two interceptions, and also scored twice on the ground. Manning’s passing touchdown was a 50-yard strike to Ryan Wingo early in the second quarter.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss completed 25 of 52 passes for 250 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions, according to SuperTalk Mississippi. Both of Chambliss’ touchdown passes went to Horatio Fields; Deuce Alexander led Ole Miss receiving with 87 yards on eight catches. Makhi Frazier led the Rebels on the ground with 47 rushing yards.

The Rebels rallied in the second half after Blake Purchase forced an Arch Manning fumble that Kam Franklin recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. Ole Miss trimmed the deficit and recovered an onside kick late to set up a potential game-winning drive, but Chambliss threw an interception on the final play.

Other late-game developments cited by SuperTalk Mississippi included a blocked 58-yard Ole Miss field-goal attempt and a subsequent 33-yard field goal by Texas’ Gianni Spetic with 2:25 remaining that pushed the Longhorns’ lead back to 34-24.

The report listed several injuries and absences: Texas was missing defensive end Colin Simmons and running back Hollywood Smothers; Ole Miss was without starting left tackle Terez Davis. During the game, Texas left tackle Trevor Goosby was carted off, wide receiver Cam Coleman exited in the second half, Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy was sidelined after a second-half hit, and center Brycen Sanders left for evaluation but returned.

SuperTalk Mississippi said Ole Miss will return to Oxford for an Oct. 31 matchup against Auburn at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, scheduled to kick off at 11:45 a.m. CT on the SEC Network and participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
