Walmart to remodel 19 Mississippi stores
Walmart said Thursday it will remodel 19 stores in Mississippi this year as part of ongoing upgrades across the state. The company said it has invested more than $379 million in Mississippi over the past five years to modernize stores.
The company said new and remodeled locations will expand selections of healthy foods and affordable on-trend items. Walmart said upgrades will include new layouts, technology and interactive displays, elevated brands and products, and services aimed at faster, more convenient shopping and delivery.
Walmart said many stores will offer delivery in as little as an hour for most customers. The company said it is moving toward free pharmacy delivery for Walmart+ members, including on GLP-1s, and is rolling out a store-based app experience to help customers navigate stores and book services at Walmart’s Auto Care Center.
“Walmart has been part of the communities across Mississippi for generations,” Nick Berkeley, senior vice president of Walmart U.S.’s Southeast business unit, said in a statement. “By modernizing our store, we’re making shopping easier, whether customers are walking the aisles, picking up an order on the go, or having essentials delivered when life gets busy. We’re proud of our legacy here and look forward to helping families save time and live better every day.”
Walmart said each remodel brings construction jobs and long-term careers in retail, pharmacy and store leadership. The company said the Mississippi work is part of a nationwide plan to remodel more than 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets this year. Walmart also said it and the Walmart Foundation donated $20 million to local nonprofits in the past year and provided 10.1 million pounds of food to help fight hunger.
