Amy Kremer urges U.S. to require AI ‘guardrails’ to protect children and workers after alleged ChatGPT link to April 2025 FSU shooting
A conservative activist told Fox News Digital the U.S. should require safety “guardrails” on artificial intelligence to protect children and prevent large-scale job displacement, citing alleged uses of AI in violent crimes.
Amy Kremer, chairwoman of the advocacy group Humans First, told Fox News Digital she favors government safeguards for AI to give ordinary Americans a voice in how the technology is deployed.
Kremer said companies are not required to report incidents involving AI to the federal government and pointed to lawsuits and litigation as the primary way the public learns about alleged harms. “If a chatbot is used in planning a school shooting like what happened at Florida State University in April of 2025, they’re not required to report that to the federal government,” Kremer told Fox News Digital.
Fox News Digital reported that court documents in the April 2025 Florida State University case allege the shooter, identified in filings as Phoenix Ikner, used ChatGPT to plan aspects of the shooting. The attack killed two people and injured six others, according to the report; the company named in related litigation was sued by the wife of one of the deceased victims and the state of Florida opened a criminal investigation into the company, Fox News Digital reported.
Kremer, described by Fox News Digital as a longtime conservative organizer associated with the Tea Party and the MAGA movement, said she supports U.S. technological leadership but believes safety rules can coexist with innovation. “I want America to win this AI race,” she told Fox News Digital, adding that guardrails make sense as a matter of common sense and public safety.
Fox News Digital also quoted a White House official saying the administration’s priority is a booming economy that gives workers opportunities and limits volatility from short-term disruptions. The official pointed the outlet to the administration’s National Policy Framework on Artificial Intelligence, which the framework Fox News Digital summarized calls on Congress to adopt child-safety measures such as tools for parents to control content exposure and privacy settings, and to “establish commercially reasonable, privacy protective, age assurance requirements (such as parental attestation) for AI platforms and services likely to be accessed by minors,” as well as safeguards against child sexual exploitation and self-harm.
Fox News Digital reported Kremer leads Humans First, which the outlet described as a grassroots group advocating for government safeguards on AI to protect children, jobs and community standards.
