California state Sen. Scott Wiener says he was harassed at San Francisco trans march

California state Sen. Scott Wiener, D., said Saturday he was “harassed, threatened, and physically intimidated” while attending a march for transgender rights in San Francisco a day earlier.

Wiener, who earlier this month advanced to the November general election to succeed former House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., described the encounter in a statement released Saturday.

The march was held in San Francisco to support transgender rights. Wiener said the incident occurred as he attended the event.

Wiener did not provide additional details in the statement included in the portions provided. The senator’s remarks were the first public description of the encounter released Saturday.
