Julia Letlow wins GOP nomination for Louisiana Senate seat

Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.) is projected to win the Republican nomination for Louisiana’s U.S. Senate seat, according to Decision Desk HQ. Letlow secured the GOP nod after a runoff election against state Treasurer John Fleming.

The runoff was set after the May 16 primary, which included incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy, businessman Mark Spencer, Letlow, and Fleming. No candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the primary, triggering the runoff.

Letlow’s campaign received an endorsement from President Donald Trump, which she credited as a key factor in her victory. The race was closely watched as an important contest for the GOP in Louisiana.
