Democrats on Thursday sharply rebuked President Donald Trump after he again alleged widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election during an evening address, saying the allegations were unsubstantiated.
“You have to be a special kind of stupid to believe this bull—-,” Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., the top Democrat on the House Rules Committee, said in a statement.
McGovern’s comment was part of a broader Democratic response to Trump’s revival of the 2020 fraud claims during the Thursday evening remarks.
Democrats said the renewed assertions renewed concerns about the integrity of public discourse surrounding the 2020 election. McGovern’s office released the statement as members of the party voiced alarm over the president’s comments.
