Disney faces scrutiny over Jimmy Kimmel controversy after White House Correspondents’ Dinner joke
Disney’s ABC is facing renewed criticism over late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who made a controversial joke about First Lady Melania Trump just days before a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.
Kimmel, who emceed the annual gala, joked about Melania Trump, saying she had a glow like an expectant widow. The comments, which received laughs from a liberal audience, drew immediate condemnation from President Donald Trump and Melania Trump, who called for Kimmel’s firing. An ABC staffer told Fox News Digital that the network should consider the standards it upholds.
Criticism extended beyond the Trumps. Former Obama adviser David Axelrod called Kimmel’s joke “tasteless” and urged an apology. Disney has not responded to requests for comment. The controversy comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Disney’s handling of Kimmel, who previously faced backlash after comments following the death of conservative figure Charlie Kirk.
Last fall, Kimmel’s remarks about Kirk’s associate led to calls for his suspension, and Disney temporarily pulled “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” from the air. The host returned weeks later after walking back his comments. It remains unclear whether Disney will support him in this latest controversy.
Meanwhile, a man accused of making an assassination threat against President Trump faces multiple charges, including attempted murder of the president. The case is separate from the Kimmel incident but underscores ongoing security concerns surrounding political figures.
