An early-season nor’easter centered about 200 miles east of the Delmarva Peninsula is producing strong winds, high waves and coastal flooding threats from eastern Virginia through southern Maine.
ABC News reported Sept. 26, 2026, that a weather station in Surf City, New Jersey, recorded a wind gust of 74 mph late Friday night, and other stations along the Jersey Shore reported gusts of 60 mph or more.
Tidal flood waters peaked at moderate flood stage late Friday and had begun to rise again ahead of high tide Saturday morning around 8 a.m., the report said. Buoys off the Jersey Shore and southern New England recorded waves of 16 feet or more.
Coastal flood alerts remained in effect from eastern Virginia through southern Maine, including Virginia Beach, Philadelphia, New York City, New London, Connecticut, Providence, Rhode Island, and Boston, ABC News said. The report warned that moderate to major coastal flooding was possible during high tide Saturday morning from the southern Chesapeake Bay to the Jersey Shore and up to Raritan Bay.
