Fever’s Clark, Mitchell lead Indiana past Liberty for top spot in Eastern Conference

Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White addressed the media for more than two minutes before Tuesday night’s game. Once the game started, her team took control, led by guard Kelsey Mitchell, who scored 20 of her 28 points in the first half.

Clark finished with 22 points and 10 assists, helping Indiana secure its seventh win in nine games. Mitchell made 11 of 16 shots, including four three-pointers, alongside Clark and Sophie Cunningham, who also hit four threes and finished with 12 points. Aliyah Boston added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Fever.

For the Liberty, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu each scored 19 points. Jonquel Jones contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds. Despite a surge by New York in the third quarter, the Fever responded with key plays, including Mitchell’s three-point play and Cunningham’s three in the final minute of the period, extending their lead to 87-67.

White also addressed recent criticism following her response to a flagrant foul involving Cunningham, emphasizing unity and resilience within the league. She defended her team and called for focus on the sport, stating, “The hate, the fearmongering, the divisiveness that’s trying to hijack our league will not win.” After her remarks, White left the press conference without taking questions.

Indiana’s victory places them at the top of the Eastern Conference standings, with the team riding momentum into the rest of the season, according to sources.
