Four charged with murder after 15-year-old found shot inside abandoned Albany home
Four people have been charged with murder after a 15-year-old was found shot to death inside an abandoned home in Albany, Georgia, on Nov. 1, the Albany Police Department said, according to Fox News.
The Albany Police Department told Fox News that investigators arrested 22-year-old Detravion Parke, two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old in connection with the death of Austin Payne, 15. The suspects were charged with murder and transported to the Dougherty County Jail.
Officers responded to the 800 block of Cameo Lane in Albany on Nov. 1, where they discovered Payne dead inside the abandoned residence, police said.
Albany Police Chief Michael Persley said during a Nov. 2 news conference that Payne had contacted his mother after being shot. “He did make a call to his mother that he had been shot,” Persley said, Fox News reported.
Fox News cited WALB in reporting that investigators reviewed surveillance footage, cellphone records and witness statements. According to WALB, witnesses told investigators that armed individuals approached a group walking with Payne, demanded belongings and opened fire.
WALB also reported that Payne may have been targeted during an attempted robbery and that he had recently displayed a handgun on social media.
Payne’s family has launched a GoFundMe fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses. A relative told the fundraiser that Payne would have turned 16 on Nov. 12 and is survived by his mother and a 17-year-old sister.
The Albany Police Department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators at 229-431-2100.
