Haley Stevens’ fiancé says he will vote for Mike Rogers, calls Abdul El‑Sayed antisemitic
Jason Turkish, the fiancé of Rep. Haley Stevens, said he will vote for Republican U.S. Senate nominee Mike Rogers and appeared at a Rogers event Wednesday night at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, Michigan, Fox News reported.
Fox News said Turkish, a Jewish registered Democrat and Michigan lawyer, told The Detroit News and reporters on the sidelines of that event that he would not back Democratic nominee Abdul El‑Sayed because he believes El‑Sayed is antisemitic.
According to Fox News’ account of Turkish’s remarks to The Detroit News, Turkish criticized El‑Sayed for repeatedly calling the war in Gaza a “genocide,” for refusing to condemn an ad Turkish said blamed Jews for the price of bananas, and for ties to California streamer Hasan Piker. Turkish said those actions make his community “less safe,” the outlet reported.
Fox News reported that Turkish also described his vote as “putting country before party” and that he has donated to both Democrats and some Republicans.
Fox News added that Turkish is the second prominent person in Stevens’ orbit to say they will vote for Rogers; the outlet said Stevens’ former campaign chair, attorney David Kramer, told Fox News he also plans to vote for Rogers.
Fox News reported that Stevens has continued to publicly endorse El‑Sayed since the primary and told CNN, “Like a lot of households across America, we’re a house divided,” adding she wants the Democratic nominee to win.
