Mamdani skips Met Gala, spotlights fashion workers
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a Democrat, said Monday he skipped the Met Gala and highlighted six fashion industry workers to draw attention to people who work behind the scenes.
“The fashion industry is made possible by the thousands of workers behind the scenes — seamstresses, tailors, retail workers, delivery drivers — whose immense talent and dedication deserves to be celebrated,” Mamdani said.
Mamdani made the remarks Monday as part of an effort to recognize the contributions of industry workers, he said.
