MLS names Los Angeles FC co-owner Larry Berg next commissioner

Major League Soccer owners named Los Angeles FC co-owner Larry Berg the league’s next commissioner, MLS said.

MLS owners described Berg as a soccer native, saying his background is rooted in the sport as he prepares to take the role.

The owners said Berg’s team is regarded as one of MLS’s best-run franchises, a record they cited in announcing his selection.

MLS owners also said Berg has embraced rule changes designed to modernize the league, and they pointed to that approach in explaining their decision.
