Nearly half of Americans unsure what America 250 marks, Cato poll finds
Ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary on Saturday, nearly half of Americans do not know what the day celebrates, a poll released Thursday found.
The nationwide survey by the libertarian think tank Cato Institute found that only 53% of respondents could correctly identify the adoption of the Declaration of Independence as the event being commemorated, the institute said.
The poll measured public awareness of “America 250,” the label used for the country’s 250th anniversary, Cato said in its release.
