New York City mayor rejects Netanyahu’s accusations, calls him ‘architect of horrific genocide’ ahead of U.N. visit

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s accusations that he supported Hamas and incited unrest against Jewish New Yorkers and called Netanyahu “the architect of horrific genocide” as the prime minister is slated to speak at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Fox News reported Mamdani made the remarks when asked about a video from Netanyahu. “We all know that what the prime minister has said in that video is not true,” Mamdani said, according to Fox News. Mamdani also referenced an International Criminal Court arrest warrant issued in November 2024 for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

According to Fox News, Netanyahu in a video posted to X earlier Tuesday accused Mamdani of supporting “the Hamas terrorist monsters who butchered our people” and of “inciting riots against New York Jews,” and said he would “tell the truth” about Mamdani when he speaks at the U.N.

Fox News reported the exchange adds to a public feud between the two leaders. The outlet said Mamdani earlier this year explored whether New York City could execute the ICC warrant against Netanyahu before acknowledging the city could not enforce the warrant on its own, and that Mamdani has previously called Netanyahu a “war criminal” and said he was “not welcome” in New York City.

Fox News also reported that following Mamdani’s meeting with former President Donald Trump on Monday, the mayor’s office said the two discussed city issues, including affordability and economic development, and that Mamdani said his conversation with Trump remained focused on New York City and New Yorkers.
