Northwestern opens $875 million Ryan Field with 34-13 win over Penn State

Northwestern christened its new $875 million Ryan Field with a 34-13 victory over Penn State, totaling 506 yards of offense, 413 of them on the ground.

Fox News’ Outkick reported the Wildcats opened the stadium — which opened its doors 100 years to the day after its predecessor debuted — and Jackson Kleather delivered the first points with a 50-yard field goal to cap Northwestern’s initial drive.

Outkick described key plays that followed: running back Joseph Himon II had a 47-yard run that set up a short Aidan Chiles touchdown run, and Penn State answered when Carson Hansen scored on an 8-yard rush after recovering a forced fumble.

The report said Northwestern had 144 yards of offense in the first quarter (109 rushing) and 278 yards by halftime under coach David Braun’s team. Outkick added the Wildcats extended their lead in the second half while Penn State struggled to move the ball; a 45-yard field-goal attempt by Ryan Barker was missed in the second quarter and Nittany Lions quarterback Rocco Becht threw an interception at midfield on the first play of the fourth quarter.

According to Outkick, Penn State will return home to host USC next weekend, while Northwestern will remain at their new stadium to welcome Ball State.
