Norway’s King Harald dies at 89, Crown Prince Haakon to succeed him

King Harald of Norway died Friday at age 89, according to the Royal House of Norway. The royal palace confirmed his passing in a statement, saying he died peacefully at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet at 6:35 a.m.

It is with deep grief that we announce the passing of His Majesty King Harald, the statement said.

Harald’s son, Crown Prince Haakon, 53, will succeed him as king, the palace added. This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as available.
