Obama urges diplomacy with Iran, cites 2015 nuclear deal
Former President Barack Obama urged diplomacy with Iran on Tuesday, saying the 2015 nuclear deal showed Tehran’s program could be constrained without military action. “We pulled it off without firing a missile,” Obama said.
Obama said negotiators had worked to remove enriched uranium from Iran. “We went about trying to negotiate a diplomatic agreement that would get the enriched uranium out of Iran, that would assure they…” he said.
He pointed to the 2015 accord as evidence that diplomatic measures can limit Iran’s nuclear program without further military intervention, Obama said.
Obama made the remarks amid the ongoing conflict as he argued for renewed diplomatic engagement with Tehran, he said.
