About 85 Americans are still missing after flash flooding along the border of Nepal and Tibet, the State Department said Sunday.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott told ABC’s Martha Raddatz that as of this morning, the department has confirmed approximately 85 Americans are unaccounted for. He added that nine Americans have been safely evacuated.
The flooding occurred in a remote area, complicating rescue efforts, according to officials. The department continues to coordinate with local authorities and aid organizations to locate and assist those affected.
There were no reports of fatalities among Americans, Pigott said. The situation remains ongoing as rescue and recovery operations continue.
