Tyrannosaurus rex ‘Gus’ to be auctioned at Sotheby’s; could fetch $30 million
The Tyrannosaurus rex fossil known as “Gus” will be auctioned Tuesday at Sotheby’s in New York, and auction estimates put the price at about $30 million, Sotheby’s said.
The specimen was shown during a press preview at Sotheby’s on July 1 in New York. The photograph of the skeleton was credited to Timothy A. Clary.
Sotheby’s said the sale continues a trend of fossil specimens being sold to private collectors. It is not the first time dinosaur bones have been offered to the highest bidder, the auction house added.
