White House Official Defends Argentina After Falklands Banner
A White House official defended Argentina after the country’s national soccer team displayed a banner asserting a claim to the Falkland Islands following its World Cup semi-final win over England, the official said.
Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House’s World Cup task force, made the defense, the White House said.
The banner asserted Argentina’s territorial claim to the Falkland Islands, a long-standing source of tension with the United Kingdom.
Giuliani’s comments came after the match in which Argentina defeated England to advance to the World Cup final, the White House said.
