World Series champion Mitch Garver retires from MLB at 35

Mitch Garver announced his retirement from Major League Baseball at age 35, ending a 10-season big-league career that included stints with the Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners.

Fox News reported Garver confirmed the move to MLB.com in a text message.

The Albuquerque native spent the first five seasons of his career with the Twins. He won a Silver Slugger Award in 2019 after hitting 31 home runs, driving in 67 runs and posting a .995 OPS.

Garver was traded to the Rangers in 2022 and was a contributor to their 2023 World Series championship. In the 2023 postseason, he played in 14 games, hitting .226 with three home runs and 14 RBI.

After the 2023 season he signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Mariners; Fox News said it was the richest contract Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto had handed out at the time.

Garver struggled offensively in Seattle compared with his time in Texas and was moved into a backup role behind catcher Cal Raleigh. He remained in the clubhouse and assisted Raleigh during Raleigh’s record-setting 2025 season, Fox News reported.

The Mariners released Garver in August 2026. He then signed a minor league contract with the New York Yankees but did not appear in a major league game for the team.

In 701 career games, Garver had a .229 batting average with 110 home runs and 324 RBI.
